   Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Where can I find more information about my antique Starr Piano?
A: The Starr Piano Company manufactured pianos and a variety of other products from around 1870 until the 1950s in Richmond, Indiana. Starr Pianos were shipped around the world and some models were known for their superior quality. Due to the large number of pianos made by the Starr Piano Company throughout its history and the small number of available business records from the Company, information regarding specific instruments is difficult, if not impossible, to locate.

To date the instrument, locate the serial number (often printed in black lettering in a small, rectangular space on the interior metal frame), and using the serial number, visit http://www.waynet.org/facts/starr-piano.htm. Contacting a local piano technician for information regarding the condition and/or value of your instrument is another good way to obtain information about antique pianos. To identify a local piano technician, visit http://www.ptg.org. Other good sources for information include: http://www.pianoworld.com/value.htm, http://www.vintagepianoshop.com/index.htm, and http://www.pianosonline.co.uk/pol/org.paneris.pol.controller.Links?category=34
